「彼」が戦争にでていき、「私」は子供たちが父親を知らないと嘆き、やっと帰ってきた夫は心身共に傷を負ったままだった。その「彼」は今はおじいちゃんになったが、昔の心の傷が未だに癒えていない。「私」はそれに寄り添いたい。戦争があっても誰ひとりとして幸せになれないから、ずっとずっとこの今訪れている、幸せな平和であってほしいと願う。
ポーラ・コールが世間に送った恒久の平和を祈る歌であると言えるのではないでしょうか。戦争を知らない人が増えてもその記憶は忘れてはならないと。
